Saturday, the fine folks at the University of Texas in Austin held their annual commencement ceremonies.
There was one little problem with the program they handed out at the gate, however. And you copy editor-types spotted it already, I’m sure:
Yep. One of the most common typos. You have to look at that word extra-carefully, folks. Especially when it’s in all upper-case letters.
This is the second high-profile college commencement error we’ve seen in two years. Last year, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. made another of the most common typos.
I make that typo myself all the time. That’s why I need a copy editor, too.
Thanks to Charlie Scudder of Indiana University for the tip.
UPDATE – 1:27 p.m.
Jim Romenesko posted a nice follow-up on this error.
